All the Interreg MED Communities are involved in the European Week of Regions and Cities, scheduled from 7 to 10 October in Brussels. In particular, the Social&Creative Community will manage the workshop “Empowering territories for a sustainable future for the Mediterranean” and the Lego Corner at the Interreg MED Piazza, where citizens and EU institutions meet for the future of Europe.
The workshop “Empowering territories for a sustainable future for the Mediterranean” will be held on 9 October at 14,30 and will involve relevant representatives of local authorities to testify the concrete results and the value of the European territorial cooperation.
Territorial cooperation, as a crucial component of European Cohesion Policy implementation, enables regions and ities to play a pivotal role in making citizens and EU Institutions shaping and implementing together innovative policies for a greener and smarter future. As the closest political institutions to citizens, local authorities can actually trigger a positive change at local level and scale up its impact via European territorial cooperation projects, as the Interreg MED Programme.
The innovative project architecture of the Interreg MED Programme enables interactions and synergic working dynamic between territorial cooperation projects within thematic communities – Green Growth, Blue Growth, Social&Creative, Urban Transport, Renewable Energy, Efficient Buildings, Sustainable Tourism and Biodiversity Protection – and even beyond, as partner organisations join forces to shape policies for sustainable development and cohesive communities in a more resilient ecosystem. In this framework, almost 900 public and private organisations from 13 Euro-Mediterranean countries exchange knowledge, experience, good practices to shape policy-making.
Citizens and EU Institutions meet at the “Interreg MED piazza” participatory lab to shape a more inclusive and sustainable future grounded on territorial cooperation projects on innovation, green and blue growth, tourism, urban transport, renewable energy and efficient buildings.
At the Piazza participants will walk through four corners to experience the Interreg MED holistic cooperation approach. At the “Civic Parliament” they will experience a participatory decision-making process; at the “Bar Terrace” they will exchange knowledge and information with experts from the Interreg MED communities; at the “Construction Site” they will experience a Lego Serious Play ® creative and abstract activity with a certified trainer; and finally in the “Playground” they will learn, through gamified activities designed by our Communities, strategic issues of sustainable lifestyle such as energy microgrids and mobility.
