The 19th Policy Brief of the Social & Creative project examines the topic of “Sustainable development”, that will be further explored in the next Innovation Camp.

Cultural and creative industries are considered fundamental for achieving the objectives set by the UN 2030 Agenda, as they are capable of generating value because they are human centered: culture and creativity therefore contribute to inclusive social development, to dialogue and understanding between peoples. They are both a driver and an enabler of human and sustainable development, they empower people to take ownership of their own development and stimulates the innovation and creativity which can drive inclusive and sustainable growth.

The integration of culture into sustainable development strategies and policies promotes a human-centered and inclusive approach to development, as well as serving as a powerful socio-economic resource. Culture is a transversal concern and, as such, it affects all dimensions of development. However, consideration of the role of culture in sustainable development requires that due attention be paid to processes as well as results.

This policy brief provides a detailed analysis of some of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that can find an important ally in their achievement in culture and creativity. For each of them, the document provides useful suggestions on what territories can do to achieve the specific objective and success stories of policies, activities, projects already carried out elsewhere. In addition, the policy brief contains an analysis of the projects of the Interreg MED Social&Creative Community that operate within the sustainable development and useful recommendations for policy makers.
