Innovation is playing an increasing role across European policies at all levels.

A broader concept of innovation is also taking shape, which blends technological and industrial advances with new societal dynamics, institutional procedures, service models, and organisational forms. The social dimension of innovation merges with the others, enabling to attain more ambitious transformational goals. In parallel, the link between innovation and creativity is being reinforced, which promotes creative industries as a complementary force for regional and local development.

The time has come to put these new policies into practice, bearing in mind that this broader concept of innovation seems particularly apt to represent the original traits of the Mediterranean spirit and culture.

That is why the Social&Creative community is building up focusing on two main pillars  - cultural and creative industries and social innovation – and declining them through the following themes.


Theme developed by ChIMERA, that aims at improving innovation capacities of the cultural and creative industry through strengthened transnational cooperation and connections among companies, research bodies, public authorities and civil society.


Odeon project addresses the exploitation of Open Data and aims at strengthening the relationship between digital agenda, e-government strategy, the open data platforms implemented at several levels and the availability of Open Data to support innovation process within Interreg MED Area.


SMATH improves the quality and quantity of connections between the publicly oriented domain of culture and the business oriented domain of creativity via innovative forms of clustering, called “Smart Atmospheres” able to support start-ups and the development of SMEs in the CC sector.


Open DOORS elaborates a study whose aim is to demonstrate how the Sharing Economy can be a driver of economic, territorial and social growth. It also establishes a network, whose strategy and action plan offer a mix of innovative services to the local communities.


Central theme in the modular project CO-CREATE, that aims at supporting cross-fertilisation processes between creative industries and traditional clusters, thus contributing to test co-design and creative methods applied to entrepreneurs and clusters managers.

MEDITERRANEAN DIET builds on the Mediterranean Diet to address the natural and demographic problems faced by MED rural regions. The baseline for transnational cooperation is a platform to transfer experiences from regional level Living Labs and Community-Led Local Development initiatives.


Central theme of the COWORKMED modular project, that promotes coworking processes and their transnational organization as a lever of social innovation in Mediterranean countries. The project carries out a study that could pave the way to future testing activities.


Theme developed by the Prominent MED modular project, focused on the use of Public Procurement of Innovation procedures to stimulate the development of innovative technology systems and solutions in the field of energy efficiency and their market uptake.


Theme developed by the modular project CreativeWear, whose objective is to revitalize the Textile & Clothing sector through a new attention to creativity, personalised design, and artisan and small-scale production for territorially specific value chains in customer-driven business models.


Central theme in the +RESILIENT project, aimed at establishing a structural approach to policy and practice improvement of emerging dynamics in social innovation through a process based on the use of open data and the creation of a transnational socially-responsive value chain. 


Central theme in the Chebec modular project, that supports CCIs access to new international markets thanks to an integrated program for companies and professionals, aimed to favor MED clusters attractiveness for creative people while keeping their own identity.
